The Grains and Legumes Development Board (GLDB) is a statutory institution established under Act 324 of 1970 to enhance Ghana’s food security through the development and supply of high-quality foundation seeds. As a subvented agency of the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA), the Board plays an essential role in strengthening the seed value chain, supporting research, and advancing agricultural transformation nationwide.

For over five decades, GLDB has remained the country’s principal public institution mandated to produce, multiply, and distribute high-quality foundation seeds of cereals, legumes, vegetables, and vegetatively propagated planting materials such as cassava, plantain, yam, cocoyam, sweet potato and citrus. The Board complements this core mandate with farmer support services, research facilitation, market development, field extension, and data-driven planning for national and export-oriented grain and legume production.
